| What
is psychotherapy ?
Who we are today
has been highly influenced by the experiences we have had in
the past, particularly in childhood, because the way we are
treated and the messages we have internalized, at a time of
innocence, lay the foundations for what we feel about ourselves.
Often
these patterns and experiences are forgotten but nevertheless
they affect us unconsciously and may also show themselves in the
form of depression, anxiety, conflicts and excessive or seemingly
inexplicable outbursts of feelings when we inevitably come up
against life's obstacles, disappointments, conflicts, relationship
breakdowns or losses, at home or at work. We may feel confused
and powerless, angry or afraid, indignant as well as not good
enough - and get caught between blaming and feeling blamed.
By exploring what you really feel and think, your past experiences
as well some of the assumptions you carry about people and the
world, you can become less afraid and more understanding and accepting
of your own truth. The freedom and insights that come from this,
will lead to clarity, direction and the confidence to make creative
changes in your life which will bring a sense of aliveness and
empowerment.
