| What is psychotherapy ? Who we are today has been highly influenced by the experiences we have had in the past, particularly in childhood, because the way we are treated and the messages we have internalized, at a time of innocence, lay the foundations for what we feel about ourselves. What we feel about ourselves influences what expect or feel we deserve, in later life, as well as what we tend to recreate, in order to master or understand what happened to us. Often these patterns and experiences are forgotten but nevertheless they affect us unconsciously and may also show themselves in the form of depression, anxiety, conflicts and excessive or seemingly inexplicable outbursts of feelings. If these things are not expressed and brought to consciousness they may also lead to psychosomatic illness. In this way the voice of the soul speaks through symptoms. When we inevitably come up against life's obstacles, disappointments, conflicts relationship breakdowns or losses, at home or at work, we may feel confused and powerless, angry or afraid, indignant as well as not good enough - and get caught between blaming and feeling blamed. Sometimes we may not know what we feel or can't express it. We may react to experiences the same way as we did as a child. I provide a compassionate, understanding of feelings and experiences which will enable you to say the things that may, at first, seem frightening or shameful because such feelings and thoughts have had to be hidden. By exploring what you really feel and think, your past experiences as well some of the assumptions you carry about people and the world, you become less afraid and more understanding and accepting of your own truth. The freedom and insights that come from this, will lead to clarity, direction and the confidence to make creative changes in your life which will bring a sense of aliveness and empowerment. |
